Have you found yourself looking at a glamorous, beautiful handbag and thinking to yourself: This is mine! It’s a wonderful feeling, isn’t it?
If you’re like us, then you fall in love with handbags all the time. Maybe its their unique shape that attracts you, the crystals they feature or how you can match it to all your outfits. But have you ever felt regret after buying a beautiful but expensive handbag that you never actually ended up using?
To save you from that bitter feeling, we spoke to our founder Aisha S. Kothari about how bags can actually be an investment.
Follow through if you want to learn how to buy an expensive handbag without any regrets.
Look At The Materials
Just like you check the label of clothes before making a purchase, do the same when it comes to handbags.
“Materials are essential to a bag,” says Aisha. “Check what the bag is made of before you take out your credit card.” Premium leather products don’t get spoiled easily (and can be cleaned as well) whereas synthetic options can start peeling very quickly.
“The material determines the durability of the bag,” continues Aisha. “A bag from Turkish brand Mlouye or Spanish brand Nita Suri will last you years.”
She adds: “the way the bag is crafted and its quality are also factors you should pay attention to. How is the product made? Who made it–was it handcrafted by artisans in Georgia like 0711 bags or delicately put together in Italy like Rosantica.”
“If the answer is yes, then the price explains the hard work, love and labour that has gone into the piece–making it worth every penny.”
Trends vs Classics
“The answer to whether you should invest in trending pieces or classics depends on who you are as a person,” Aisha says. “If you love to always be on-trend with your outfits and it fits your personal style, then technically it’s no longer an impulse buy; it’s part of who you are. And that’s always going to be an investment for you.”
“However, do keep in mind that there are some pieces that are timeless. You can carry them today, tomorrow, two years later or even a decade after without them becoming irrelevant. These are called universal classics. These always prove to be an investment because they never go out of style.”
While trends might be in and out of fashion, your personality (yes we’re thinking of all of you that love bubblegum pink or fringes or leather) and classics are always in fashion.
Return Of Investment
Now before you think we’re going to bore you with numbers, we’re not–okay maybe the amount of compliments you’ll get. With parties, weddings, gatherings and brunches filling up our social calendar, statement pieces are worth investing in. “Glamorous, attention-grabbing pieces elevate an outfit,” says Aisha.
“A bag might be too small to fit your phone, but it instantly increases the glam quotient of your outfit to 100–making it worth it.”
Similarly, investing in an expensive go-to bag is also a wise decision. “A handbag that is minimalistic in style but beautiful in look is a great pick any day. You can wear it for almost all occasions and carry it from day to night easily.”
“A bag like Pipatchara, Nita Suri or 0711 is a great example. Although the design is clean and minimal, it’s so versatile that you can carry it with almost anything. And it’s that amazing?”
